Less than 20 miles from King Cross in London, you will find that the delightful town of St Albans has everything you need for a perfect holiday. It is easily accessible form all parts of the UK by way of the M1, M25 and the A1 highways. This is the only city in Hertfordhsire and has been home to settlers for more than 2000 years. The Christian martyr, St. Alban, is believed to be buried on the site where the Cathedral and Abbey Church now stands.

You can easily explore this city on foot because it is very easy to find your way around. There are more than 100 acres of parkland where you can sit and take in the breathtaking scenery or take one of many woodland walks. For the avid shopper, a visit to St. Albans is a dream come true with the many well known brand name stores and quaint antique stores located along High Street. Every Wednesday and Saturday the town square is bustling with activity at the Farmer's Market. With over 120 restaurants and cafés, as well as hotels, bed and breakfasts and historic pubs you will find that all you have to do is enjoy yourself to the fullest.

You will have to visit the Cathedral and Abbey Church, whose spires dominate the skyline of the city. Take the guided tour to see features of the Cathedral that come from many periods of history, such as the tower, which dates back to Roman times. There is a café here where you an have a slight snack. The Clock Tower is the only medieval belfry in England and when you climb the 93 steps you the top, you will be treated to a panoramic view of the city and the countryside.

See the more than 20 different types of De Haviland aircraft on display at the De Haviland Aircraft and Heritage Centre. At the Rose Garden you can learn the history of the rose and get tips on how to have your own exquisite garden. If you are interested in history, you will certainly want to spend some time at the Roman Mosaic, which is part of a suite of rooms dating back to 200 A.D. See a milling machine in action and exhibits of early farming tools at Kingsbury Watermill and learn the story of the city with a visit to the Museum of St. Albans.
