Your guide to Dedham, United Kingdom from Cheap Hotels Ltd.
You will see some of the most beautiful scenery in England when you visit Dedham, a village in northeast Essex. The village grew up around the church and together with the hamlets of The Heath and Lamb Corner, it forms the Dedham Vale. Although the main economy is agriculture, there is a thriving commercial center in the village with a supermarket, an art gallery, a post office and several other stores. As you stroll about, you will see cattle grazing in the fields. History buffs flock to Dedham to visit Sherman's Hall, a Grade 1 historic building. This is truly a magnificent example of medieval architecture. It is now a series of cottages, but it was the center of the wool trade in its heyday. You can still see the coaching arch of the Sun Inn, another medieval building in the town and there is also a medieval church you can visit. Visit Sir Alfred Munnings Art Museum with its restored Castle House. The character of the house remained much as it was in the early 1900's when the painter, Sir Alfred and his wife, lived here. See the many paintings of racehorses, which was his passion. Just a few miles away, you can imagine yourself living in earlier times with the thatched cottage dating back to the 16th century. Enjoy the painting displays and take a delightful walk through the countryside surrounding the cottage. There are several hotels in the area where you will be comfortable and have amenities at your fingertips. Stop in the pub for a drink and enjoy the delightful meals in the hotel restaurants.
