Your guide to Basildon, United Kingdom from Cheap Hotels Ltd.
Established after World War II from four small villages, Basildon is a town in South Essex originally designed to hold the overflow of population from London. Many of the people who live here commute to London each day for work. There is a wide variety of hotels, bed and breakfasts establishments and self-catering units, so you won't have much difficulty finding accommodation. Getting around won't be a problem either, with the buses and trains that operate from the town. Basildon offers many opportunities for getting out and about with its countryside walks. The large network of trails connect the wide open spaces and country parks allowing you to take some time to enjoy the countryside and see the flora and fauna of the area. The district also boasts over 30 miles of shared and separate trails for cycling and the areas are well signed out. Some of the must-see attractions of Basildon include the Basildon Arts Trust Gallery. This is the home of Modern Art exhibits that have not previously been on display. St. Martin's Bell Tower, located in St. Martin's Square is a free-standing glass tower in which there are six historic bells from the church of St. Nicholas in Colchester and two new bells. The structure is an 85-foot octagonal spire that is truly a magnificent sight. See the statue of the Mother and Child in the town square that took over one year to complete. Nature lovers will certainly want to visit the Noak Bridge Nature Reserve where there are bird nesting boxes and bat boxes. There are several distinct animal habitats throughout this reserve. When you engage in some shopping at the Eastgate Shopping Center, you won't be able to miss the Cat's Cradle Pussiwillow III Clock. This clock chimes every fifteen minutes and has a full display of rotations and spins on the hour.
